Do People Really Text Anymore?

Do people really text anymore in 2026? For years there have been so many and better alternatives to texting or using your phone's built-in messenger, maybe now it's time to change.

Texting used to cost money, before the age of contracts you had to PAYG (Pay As You Go) which meant topping up your credit and being charged per text.

Sending images was even more expensive with each one costing up to 50p, compared to the 10p or 12p for a text.

You were also limited to how many characters per text you could send before being charged for two if you went one character over the limit.

It's somewhat easier these days with most contracts, including 30-day ones having unlimited minutes and texts included for as little as £5 per month (maybe less depending on the network you get your SIM from).

Image about Signal Messenger

Before I go on, this isn't a sponsored post. It's not an ad. It's about something I want to recommend due to recent announcements from Samsung.

Signal has always championed privacy, security and encryption from the day it was launched.

With the changes Meta appear to be making, WhatsApp may no longer be as secure as you think it is or at least from a particular date and according to some, you had to OPT IN for encryption on Instagram.

I've never trusted WhatsApp, but it has become a necessary evil for a couple of specific things in my life, but I would rather use Signal.

Although End-to-End Encryption is still a thing on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, it's only what we're led to believe and take Meta's word for it.

If you would like to try out Signal and maybe, possibly move your contacts over to it (if they're willing), here are the links...
