Today I am taking a look at a brand new demo that caught my eye called RV Life Sim.
As you know from my recent simulation game adventures over on the channel, I am always on the lookout for the next great indie experience.
Whether it is managing a police station or fixing things up on a budget, I love seeing what small developers are cooking up. This one, however, tested my patience and my rig right out of the gate.
When I first booted up the game, it was chugging along at about two frames per second.
It felt like my laptop was trying to compile the shaders for the entire universe at once.
I actually thought I might need to upgrade to a fictional RTX 5090 Super just to get out of the starting apartment!
After tweaking the mouse sensitivity and getting the settings under control, I finally made it to the RV and hit the open road.
The gameplay itself is exactly what you expect from an early development build.
You start off with basic survival elements where you can pick up ladders, find a furnace, and even craft a bow if you gather the right materials.
My main mission somehow devolved into picking locks on abandoned cars just to siphon fuel. The character physics are absolutely hilarious too.
At one point, the running animation completely broke down into this goofy chicken sprint that had me laughing out loud.
I also noticed some massive frame drops when driving near buildings.
This seems to be a common theme until developers transition these projects over to newer engines like Unity 5.9.
Despite the technical jank, forcing my RV offroad through tight squeezes to reach the Waterside Forest was weirdly satisfying.
We could not even sleep in the RV at the end, but it was still a fun ride. Also, I didn't find a way to do the things the Steam description says you can do in the demo.
