Solarpunk Episode 4: Copper Mining, Watermelons & My First Power Grid

We are diving into episode four of Solarpunk today, and things are really starting to pick up now that we have full access to our airship.

I'd been recording for about five or six hours straight, but I am honestly just far too hooked on this game to stop anytime soon.

In this episode, we take a maiden voyage over to a nearby shop island to see what the local trade bot has in stock.

The trade bot was demanding four whole watermelons in exchange for a full automated sprinkler kit.

There was only one small problem. I searched a neighbouring floating island, mined some sweet copper ore for tier four research, and found a batch of watermelon seeds, but I was stuck at three watermelons.

You can probably imagine my exact reaction to being short by just a single watermelon!

After flying back home, I immediately got to work planting those seeds and constantly nursing them with our trusty wooden watering can.

Once that fourth watermelon finally grew, I hopped right back into the airship, completed the trade, and brought home our very first power generator, network display, and automated sprinkler setup.

A first person view of a player placing an automated sprinkler next to a patch of watermelons on a floating island in Solarpunk.

Hooking up the electrical power cables, firing up the generator, and watching the sprinkler automatically irrigate my crop patch felt like a massive technological milestone for our sky base.

We even managed to craft proper iron tools to speed up our mining routine.

Automating our farming loop is going to make harvesting the ten watermelons and twenty beeswax required for upcoming trade blueprints so much easier.

Check out the full gameplay episode below and let me know in the comments if you have built an automated power grid in Solarpunk yet!
